Today I got a splinter and the tweezers were good.

Certain people ask for a whole lot.

You know how terrorists, especially in movies, ask for their comrades to be freed from prisons as one of their demands? What about the sick and infirm, is there a way that taking pseudo-hostages (maybe good people who were in on the ruse) could get everyone released from all the intensive care wards? "The Wellness Uprising" sounds like a lovely near-future farce. And, yeah, I know that sometimes people are so sick that they need help and that the terrorists are usually just tossing that demand in there to confuse the crimefighters into not realizing that it's actually a bank robbery, but it would be cool if everyone got better.

The phone is broken. And I've thrown away the bills because I've paid them. And the bills have a little code that would let me email for the repair. So instead I have to go to their website, get the number and then find a working payphone. It's like I'm in the Matrix, without the semi-eww PVC sexiness.

I bought books yesterday. It would have been good if I'd also been able to buy the time to read them.

Hey, you. It's good to see you online.

“Certain people ask for a whole lot.” – What happened?

"I bought books yesterday. It would have been good if I'd also been able to buy the time to read them." - I'm with you there. But at least I'm able to get a little reading in on the bus (I take it to work now - saves on gas, vehicle wear and tear, etc.) Yesterday I bought a little $5 compilation of some of T.S. Elliot's work, which made for a delightful commute home. Sigh.

Oh, work-related transition.

I would so take the bus, but it seems to leave too late and too early, or vice versa. So I read while driving! Whoops...swerve...should've switched to books on tape!

"Transition" - Meaning promotion? If I'm prying, just tell me to bugger off. :)

Hey, I've done a lot of reading via books on cd myself. That is, when I used to drive. And it's kind of nice every now and then if you have a good reader, but there's just something I love about actually reading the words. It seems more like I'm in discovery of a treasure and in complete disbelief at the jewels I continuously pull from the prose. I might be the only person on earth that marks or highlights my favorite novels. Heh.

Umm...can I get the same promotion more than once?

I guess the answer is yes, back in January. I'm a manager at a bookstore, again. The same gig I abandoned last year to spend more time writing.

Immediately after, there were other shake ups. I'd be quite willing to elaborate privately but, publicly, I worry about getting dooced.

I've highlighted books, but only a few. The book collector in me is against it. The writer in me is okay with it, as long as it's not a priceless edition. Certain books that I re-read have become treasure troves of creative study, but I tend to make photocopies of other people's work that I'm really going to pry apart.

And how are you?

“The same gig I abandoned last year to spend more time writing.” - Ah.

“I'd be quite willing to elaborate privately but, publicly, I worry about getting dooced.” – Understand completely. I guess I should have emailed that question. Heh. Wait a tick, does this mean I have permission to email you? ;)

And…I only highlight paperbacks of my faves – the kind of copies you find at a garage sale for fitty cents a piece.

“And how are you?” – I always wonder what people mean by that question. Sometimes they ask it out of habit and with the same meaning as “Hi. I’m acknowledging you, but I’m on my way out the door.” And then there are those that truly are interested, so how about a happy medium sort of response – “Mmm…groovy, mostly.”
