...you see it through Bella's eyes. And she's an idiot.

That sort of sums it all up.

Back when I ran a bookstore, our district manager demanded that we read one in the series. I was unable because my eyes slipped off the page, so I downloaded the audio. I listened intently, understood exactly why it is popular, and moved on with my life.

I remember reading Twilight and wondering when Bella was going to learn not to be such a superficial snob. Apparently she never does and in the end is rewarded for these traits (if you can call being married to her quasi-abusive boyfriend a reward).

See also T-shirt spotted at recent Amanda Palmer concert. It read:

"And then Buffy staked Edward. The end."

Yes. I'm going to see the movie eventually and I bet it will be worse than I imagine. I used to joke that Echo should just be given an imprint where she was a vampire slayer named Faith, but I think I saw the B staked E on an icon...

You know me, I pretend to have an answer for ever pop culture phenomenon, but Anne Rice leading to Poppy Z. Brite and then detouring into Paranormal Romance and that being tamed down to teen-oriented pro-abstinence Mormony porn can only be explained by invoking Buffy.

That wins.
